Intro to Astro Photography

Sunday 22 December
Elton - 7pm - 2 Hours
Mark Parker
Do you gaze up at the night sky with wonder? What about looking up at the stars and thinking, how old that light you are seeing is? Maybe you watch as day and night morph into one, and the stars come out to play.

This meetup is going to cover off everything you need to know to start capturing amazing single shot astrophotography and a few extra bits of helpful advice. The learnt basics of capturing a single frame will form the building blocks of your astrophotography journey. Think of this meetup as your first step on that journey or for those who have already started, maybe a road sign.

Astrophotography looks amazing and packs a real punch, however, you do not need to spend a fortune to partake. Does gear make a difference, the simple answer is yes, but it is not the deciding factor when it comes to astrophotography. This meetup will look at planning your session, camera settings, required equipment. I want this meetup to help you maximise your current gear as your start capturing milky way shots.

The weather was cloudy so we didn?t get to see any stars which was a real shame, however Mark was engaging, informative and gave the group lots of advice and helpful tips. As a beginner I did struggle a bit as the rest of the group were more experienced but Mark was very helpful.

It was really good that it was a small group and that whilst we spent some time talking through the principles and being shown some good examples, much of the session was actually trying it in practice with on-hand advice to discuss photo options and approaches, and provide valuable advice on even on past photos as to how one could have improved it, which was very helpful

I really enjoyed the morning with Mark....knowing nothing at the beginning of the session and with Mark sharing the basics with the group throughout our time with him, I felt I was beginning to get it. Mark was patient, helpful and enthusiastic. Happy to recommend.

It was a great photography experience where I learned new skill and techniques as an amateur photographer. Mark is super friendly and helpful with a tonne of expertise, plus with it being such a small group, we had all the 1-2-1 time we needed with questions etc.

Everyone calls Mark, Happy Bob (misspent youth!) and he's a 20-year plus multi award-winning photographer and videographer, based in Peterborough, UK 2013 although he travels all over the county and to destinations if needed.

He tends to do a lot of wedding photography and editorial, but I also does other work such as corporate, events dog and horse photography and families. He loves street photography too, but he rarely gets a chance to indulge his passion.

This image was initially taken in natural light without the petal on the ground. I added the petal because I thought the photo needed an additional point of interest. I have usually avoided flower photography because arranging flowers is an art form in itself. However, I needn't have worried in this case because the flowers conveniently arranged themselves.

I had spent the day at the seaside doing some pictures for a street photography project. I?m working on. As I was looking to go back to the car at the end of the day, I noticed a lone kite surfer. So hanging around for 30 minutes or more to let the sunset get more intense I snapped away while he was midflight.Picture was taken using a Sony A7RV and a Sony 70mm to 200mm G master lens at 1/1600 second at f2.8

This photo was taken at Ferry Meadows Country Park in Peterborough in early 2024. As I rounded a corner a flock of Goldfinch were feeding on Teasel and flew off due to my presence, however I noticed one who decided to be brave and continue to feast. This was not before he gave me this the most amazing look. The photo was taken with a Canon R5 and 100-500mm Lens. Settings were 1/400 sec F 7.1 ISO 800. It was a challenging shot due to fairly low light at the time, so the low shutter speed was a bi

Was lucky to have a meteor fly across the sky as I was taking this photo. I've always wondered at the night sky. Even now, anytime I see a meteor or even a satellite it still fills me with excitement. Astrophotography allows me to share that wonder and excitement with others.
