Intro to Astro Photography

Intro to Astro Photography

Sunday 27 October
Elton - 7pm - 2 Hours
Mark Parker
Do you gaze up at the night sky with wonder? What about looking up at the stars and thinking, how old that light you are seeing is? Maybe you watch as day and night morph into one, and the stars come out to play.

This meetup is going to cover off everything you need to know to start capturing amazing single shot astrophotography and a few extra bits of helpful advice. The learnt basics of capturing a single frame will form the building blocks of your astrophotography journey. Think of this meetup as your first step on that journey or for those who have already started, maybe a road sign.

Astrophotography looks amazing and packs a real punch, however, you do not need to spend a fortune to partake. Does gear make a difference, the simple answer is yes, but it is not the deciding factor when it comes to astrophotography. This meetup will look at planning your session, camera settings, required equipment. I want this meetup to help you maximise your current gear as your start capturing milky way shots.

It was really good that it was a small group and that whilst we spent some time talking through the principles and being shown some good examples, much of the session was actually trying it in practice with on-hand advice to discuss photo options and approaches, and provide valuable advice on even on past photos as to how one could have improved it, which was very helpful

I really enjoyed the morning with Mark....knowing nothing at the beginning of the session and with Mark sharing the basics with the group throughout our time with him, I felt I was beginning to get it. Mark was patient, helpful and enthusiastic. Happy to recommend.

It was a great photography experience where I learned new skill and techniques as an amateur photographer. Mark is super friendly and helpful with a tonne of expertise, plus with it being such a small group, we had all the 1-2-1 time we needed with questions etc.

Everyone calls Mark, Happy Bob (misspent youth!) and he's a 20-year plus multi award-winning photographer and videographer, based in Peterborough, UK 2013 although he travels all over the county and to destinations if needed.

He tends to do a lot of wedding photography and editorial, but I also does other work such as corporate, events dog and horse photography and families. He loves street photography too, but he rarely gets a chance to indulge his passion.

Nature photography is one of my favourite hobbies. I took this photo on my walk in Woodwalton Fen a beautiful reserve which is a refuge for thousands of species of fen animals and plants, many of which are found nowhere else in the country. It is a National Nature Reserve, a Ramsar site, a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and a Special Area of Conservation (SAC)."https://www.greatfen.org.uk/woodwalton-fen

I couldn't wait for the Milky Way at this location due to high bear activity it was almost dark by the time I hiked back to the car. The Milky Way picture is a stack of 19 frames for noise reduction, taken a few hours later over Lake Tahoe, which is just a few miles away from the falls.Edited in Luminar Neo.

This shot was taken on my first day into this trip. My wife and I decided to spend Labor Day weekend in the mountains which was wonderful but also very busy which isn't the best for wildlife photography. However, I did come away with some good shots from my outing (mostly landscape) and this is by far one of my favorite. I love how the light is striking the deer's face while he is mostly shrouded in shadow. I took this with a Nikon 200-500mm @ 500, 1/160s, ISO 100 and f6.3. I shot this across th

Was out looking for anything to photograph on one my few days off from work. So I went to the plot of land where I deer hunt. Any wild flower that may still be in bloom, insects, things like that. Tons of grasshoppers everywhere and I came across this fella. I didn't realize he possibly had a wounded left wing until I processed the photos. No wonder he sat thru many different angles, exposures, and me getting up in his face and didn't offer to fly off. LOL
